2 months @ 29 Tamil Films, 26 Telugu Films

What is happening in Tollywood? Can't we survive without watching a Tamil movie or could our producers live without releasing a 'dubbed flick'? Listen to the voice of some desperate Telugu producers who want to ban 'dubbed' movies here!

In the first two months of 2012 almost 29 dubbed Tamil films have hit Tollywood while there are only 26 films from Telugu filmmakers. Not only that their number is increasing, even they are not allowing our films to release in number of theatres. A section of small producers are weeping about this situation before requesting government to take action on this. Either it should be like Sandalwood (Kannada) where dubbing flicks are not allowed to release or in Kollywood (Tamil industry) where 30% entertainment tax is levied on the producer, says a producer.

In Telugu industry, dubbing flicks are charged only 12% tax like what they do for regular movies. However, with many producers caring for money they earn than the 'pride' they get in limiting Tamil flicks here, this is not going to happen in our state in the near future. Most of the distributors and theatre owners are buying Tamil flicks in lakhs and earning crores if it scores a hit or making their money double if it flops. No one here wants to shed their sweat in making a complete movie and releasing it, they just want someone to do it and Tamil flicks suit their needs well, a noted personality from Film Chamber stated.

Analysts say, if this scenario continues for a while, then people will stop making small-budget Telugu films and will just dub other language movies and release. Time for our reel-people to look into the real lives of small-budgeted producers, seriously!
